Flink UI alternatives, compared
Seven ways to get more out of Apache Flink than the built-in dashboard — what each one is, what it is best at, and where it stops.
The short answer
Apache Flink ships a built-in Web UI on port 8081 that is read-only and limited to one cluster. The main alternatives are the Flink SQL Gateway for SQL, Apache StreamPark and Dinky as open-source development platforms, the Flink Kubernetes Operator for GitOps on Kubernetes, Grafana + Prometheus for metrics and alerting, and Flink Manager by Vinteros Labs as a production Flink UI that combines a Flink SQL workbench, job lifecycle management, Apache Flink monitoring, role-based access control, and an audit trail in one console.
Flink UI alternatives at a glance
| Tool | Type | License | Best for | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apache Flink Web UI (built-in dashboard) | Monitoring dashboard | Apache 2.0 — ships with Flink | Live, single-cluster visibility: jobs, TaskManagers, checkpoints, backpressure, logs. | Mostly read-only, one cluster, no SQL editor, no access control, no metric history or alerting. |
| Flink SQL Client & SQL Gateway | SQL interface (terminal / REST) | Apache 2.0 — ships with Flink | Running Flink SQL interactively or from other tools via REST. | Not a visual interface — no browser editor and no monitoring. |
| Apache StreamPark | Open-source streaming application platform | Apache 2.0 | Teams that want a one-stop platform to develop, deploy, and operate Flink (and Spark) applications on YARN or Kubernetes. | A full platform to install and run, with its own metadata database; broader in scope than a cluster console. |
| Dinky | Open-source Flink SQL development platform | Apache 2.0 | SQL-first teams: a Flink SQL IDE with completion, debugging, lineage, catalogs, and Flink CDC pipelines. | SQL-development oriented and Flink-version-specific to set up; needs its own database. |
| Flink Kubernetes Operator | Kubernetes operator (no UI) | Apache 2.0 | GitOps-style lifecycle management of Flink deployments on Kubernetes. | No graphical interface — you work with kubectl and YAML, and still use a Web UI per deployment. |
| Grafana + Prometheus | Metrics dashboards | Open source (AGPL / Apache 2.0) | Long-term Apache Flink monitoring and alerting via Flink's Prometheus metric reporter. | Metrics only — no job management, no SQL, no Flink-aware access control; dashboards are DIY. |
| Flink Manager by Vinteros Labs | Production Flink UI & management console | Commercial — free trial license | Platform teams that need one console to operate existing Flink clusters: SQL, jobs, monitoring, RBAC, and audit. | Licensed for production use (free trial, no credit card). Runs as a Docker container next to your cluster. |
Each alternative in detail
1. Apache Flink Web UI (built-in dashboard)
Monitoring dashboard · Apache 2.0 — ships with Flink
Served by the JobManager on port 8081. It is the reference every other Flink UI is measured against: an execution graph per job, checkpoint statistics, backpressure and busyness per subtask, exception history, and JAR upload for job submission.
2. Flink SQL Client & SQL Gateway
SQL interface (terminal / REST) · Apache 2.0 — ships with Flink
The SQL Client (bin/sql-client.sh) gives you an interactive SQL shell; the SQL Gateway (default port 8083) exposes sessions over REST so that web consoles — including Flink Manager — can run Flink SQL on your behalf.
3. Apache StreamPark
Open-source streaming application platform · Apache 2.0
StreamPark covers application development, deployment, management, and real-time data-warehouse workflows. It suits teams that want a development platform around Flink rather than a console on top of an existing cluster.
4. Dinky
Open-source Flink SQL development platform · Apache 2.0
Dinky is a real-time computing platform built on Flink that focuses on immersive Flink SQL development across Local, Standalone, YARN, and Kubernetes execution modes, plus runtime monitoring and alerting.
5. Flink Kubernetes Operator
Kubernetes operator (no UI) · Apache 2.0
The operator manages FlinkDeployment and FlinkSessionJob resources, upgrades with savepoints, and autoscaling. Pair it with a UI for day-to-day visibility.
6. Grafana + Prometheus
Metrics dashboards · Open source (AGPL / Apache 2.0)
Enable Flink's PrometheusReporter (port 9249 by default), scrape it with Prometheus, and build Grafana dashboards and Alertmanager rules. See our Apache Flink monitoring guide for the metrics worth alerting on.
7. Flink Manager by Vinteros Labs
Production Flink UI & management console · Commercial — free trial license
Flink Manager connects to the JobManager REST API and the SQL Gateway and adds what the built-in UI lacks: a Flink SQL workbench, job deploy/stop/restart with savepoints, JAR management, TaskManager logs, metric history with warning/critical thresholds and notifications, RBAC with LDAP/OIDC, and an append-only audit trail.

How to choose a Flink UI
- “I just need to see what a single cluster is doing”
- The built-in Apache Flink Web UI
- “I need Flink SQL without a browser”
- Flink SQL Client or SQL Gateway
- “I want a full open-source development platform around Flink”
- Apache StreamPark or Dinky
- “I run Flink on Kubernetes with GitOps”
- Flink Kubernetes Operator + a UI for visibility
- “I need long-term metrics and alerting only”
- Grafana + Prometheus
- “I need one console to operate existing clusters: SQL, jobs, monitoring, RBAC, audit”
- Flink Manager
Flink UI alternatives — FAQ
- It depends on the gap you are filling. For SQL, use the Flink SQL Gateway. For an open-source development platform, use Apache StreamPark or Dinky. For metrics and alerting only, use Grafana with Prometheus. For a single production console that operates existing clusters — Flink SQL workbench, job lifecycle with savepoints, monitoring with thresholds, RBAC, and audit trail — use Flink Manager by Vinteros Labs.
- Yes. Apache StreamPark and Dinky are Apache 2.0-licensed platforms for developing and operating Flink jobs, and Grafana with Prometheus is a common open-source stack for Flink metrics. The Flink SQL Gateway and the Flink Kubernetes Operator are also open source but have no graphical interface.
- The built-in Flink Web UI is a read-only monitoring view for one cluster. It has no Flink SQL editor, no multi-cluster view, no role-based access control, no audit trail, and no metric history or alerting — the capabilities platform teams need in production.
- Yes. All of the alternatives on this page work alongside the built-in dashboard. Flink Manager, for example, connects to the same JobManager REST API on port 8081 and the SQL Gateway on port 8083, so nothing changes in your cluster.
- The built-in Web UI, SQL Gateway, and Kubernetes Operator follow Flink releases. Flink Manager targets Apache Flink 2.x clusters through the JobManager REST API. For StreamPark and Dinky, check each project's compatibility matrix for your Flink version.
