Open-source Flink UI & Kafka UI options compared
A practical 2026 guide to open-source dashboards and consoles for Apache Flink and Apache Kafka — and where open source ends.
Open-source Flink UI options
Apache Flink's built-in web dashboard (served by the JobManager on 8081) is the go-to open-source Flink UI. It shows jobs, task managers, and backpressure for a single cluster. Community tools add job submission, and Flink's SQL Client / SQL Gateway handle SQL execution — but the terminal, not a browser, remains the interface. See the full open-source Flink UI guide for a side-by-side comparison.
Open-source Kafka UI options
For Apache Kafka, three names dominate open-source "Kafka UI" searches:
Provectus Kafka-UI — the original Apache-2.0 dashboard with topics, consumer groups, and schemas. Kafbat UI — its actively maintained fork. Redpanda Console — a polished message explorer, source-available under BSL. All three are excellent for browsing; none provides governance workflows out of the box. Our Kafka UI open-source comparison digs into the differences.
Where open source ends
The moment a team needs role-based access, self-service topics with approvals, schema compatibility enforcement, data lineage, or audit-ready change history, open-source consoles stop being enough. That is where Flink UI by Vinteros Labs and Kafka Governance come in — production consoles layered on the same Apache Flink and Kafka engines.
Bottom line
Use the open-source dashboard to explore, and adopt a management console when you operate at scale. Start with a free 30-day Flink Manager trial to feel the difference.
